Gemini's AI overview says the following:
Quote:Based on reports from early May 2026, a "Nalanda-style" Gaurav University (also referred to as part of a "Glory Project") is planned to be established in Odisha near the Chilika Lake area, specifically targeting the vicinity of Karakhola Hill in Khallikote, Ganjam district.
Key details surrounding this development include:
- Location and Purpose: The project is intended to be located near Khallikote, aiming to boost tourism, enhance regional development, and increase revenue in the Ganjam district.
- Vision: The university is designed to reflect the architectural and educational spirit of the ancient Nalanda University, focusing on a "Nalanda-style" campus, according to reports.
- Administrative Actions: Forest officials, including the DFO (District Forest Officer) Amala Nayak, have been involved in identifying land, with discussions on utilizing spots like "Samalasi Gopi Kuda" (Samalasi Gopal Kuda) and surrounding forest/hilly areas.Environmental
- Context: The project is planned on Karakhola Hill, near the shores of Chilika Lake, and involves coordination between the tourism, forest, and developmental departments.
This development is distinct from the recently inaugurated new campus of the Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 19, 2024.

The Government has approved an eastern coast railway project forming part of the Howrah–Chennai High Density Network. The corridor spans from Kolkata through Odisha covering Balasore, Bhadrak, Jakhapura, Haridaspur, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda and Berhampur, and extends into Andhra Pradesh through Naupada, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam up to Vijayawada and Chennai. This stretch is being developed as a four lined corridor to ease congestion and improve connectivity. The project will benefit major ports such as Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Gangavaram, strengthening cargo movement and logistics.
The project includes 3 mega bridges, 58 major bridges, 416 minor bridges, 73 underpasses and 3 flyovers, along with a 2.7 km elevated railway line, with a total track length of about 458 km. Designed for high density, high capacity and high speed operations, it will address heavy traffic across the corridor. The project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 51.5 crore kilograms annually, supporting a shift from road to rail and improving environmental sustainability.
