IMI Bhubaneswar should aim to become a University
Posted by: Chitta - 01-22-2023, 08:18 PM - Forum: Ideas (new universitiess, etc.) - No Replies

IMI Bhubaneswar (https://imibh.edu.in/) is a business school in Bhubaneswar that started in 2011. Some initial funding perhaps came from IMI Delhi and the Goenka group. (Industrialist Sanjeev Goenka is the Chair of Board of Governors.) That same year IMI Kolkata also debuted.

IMI Bhubaneswar has been doing well. It has now 22 faculty. Its student numbers have steadily increased, and is now more than 100 per year. Following shows how its number increased steadily (Collected from https://imibh.edu.in/earlier_admission_reports

2011-13 (12)
2012-14 (24)
2013-15 (18)
2014-16 (16)
2015-17 (46)
2016-18 (63)
2017-19 (70)
2018-20 (101)

2019-21 (108) - From https://imibh.edu.in/UserFiles/Image/19_21AR.pdf
2020-22 (115) - From https://imibh.edu.in/UserFiles/Image/20_22AR.pdf
2021-23 (111)
2022-24 (180)

It has a diverse student body. For the 2020-22 batch the student body came from the following states:

Bihar 11
Delhi 6
Chhattisgarh 2
Jharkhand 23
Madhya Pradesh 2
Odisha 18
Rajasthan 2
Uttar Pradesh 15
Uttarakhand 1
West Bengal 27
Andhra Pradesh 1
Assam 4
Haryana 2
Kerala 1

Its total fees for two years is about 13 lakhs (see https://imibh.edu.in/pgdm_fee_structure )

Its ranking information is given at https://imibh.edu.in/imi_in_b-school_rankings . In some of the rankings it is ranked higher than some of the IIMs.

This institute should aim to become a university (Goenka University) 5-10 years later and add add multiple programs. Perhpas the Odisha government should approach Mr. Goenka about this.

Note: See https://odishadev.odishasociety.org/thread-89.html for an earlier posting on this.)

DAV Business School should aim to become a univesrity
Posted by: Chitta - 01-22-2023, 08:00 PM - Forum: Ideas (new universitiess, etc.) - No Replies

DAV is a brand name in India, and its schools in Bhubaneswar are ranked very high and are providing quality education with comparatively low cost.

The DAV School of Business Management in Bhubaneswar (https://www.dsbm8.org/) has been providing quality B.Com and BBA education. As per its recent prospectus (https://www.dsbm8.org/pdf/DSBM-PROSPECTUS-22-23.pdf )  7 of its BBA students  and 8 of its B.Com students were among the top  10 in the university.

Recently (perhaps last year) it has introduced PG Diploma in management. See https://www.dsbm8.org/pgdmform.php .  I hope this program does well and the institution becomes a university. Perhaps some people can donate a significant amount to their trust towards that goal.

There is a DAV University in Jalandhar, Punjab (https://www.davuniversity.org/) with a wide range of disciplines.

Communication with Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS
Posted by: Chitta - 01-18-2023, 01:00 AM - Forum: Biju Patnaik International Airport - No Replies

I had several communication with Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS about Bhubaneswar airport. He was the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India that time.

He passed away due to Covid in June 2021. (https://indianexpress.com/article/cities...d-7366007/

Airport development and expansion - 3rd terminal etc.

As per https://odishabytes.com/international-te...-2023/amp/ the connector between the international terminal and current domestic terminal will be completed by March 2023. The link building will be used for international arrival and the international terminal will be used for international departure. Following is an image of the link building from 2019: https://twitter.com/otvnews/status/1099291952103809024

Access-controlled Expressways - Odisha kind of sidelined
Posted by: Chitta - 01-15-2023, 07:17 AM - Forum: Inclusions and Omissions in Central Schemes - Replies (7)

See the thread https://odishadev.odishasociety.org/thre...t-532.html . While the initial list at https://archive.pib.gov.in/documents/rli...102503.pdf and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bharatmala seems positive for Odisha, in terms of ground development of access-controlled expressways, Odisha is no where. This is really alarming as in 5 years when all the various access-controlled expressways come up with very little in Odisha, manufacturing companies will hesitate to set shop in Odisha as transporting without access-controlled expressways will be slower in odisha.

In a perverse way the GQ passing through coastal Odisha seems to be working against Odisha in that the central government prefers access controlled expressways to be mostly greenfield as it is cheaper and faster than broadening existing national highways to access controlled expressways. The reasons it is expensive to broaden existing national highways to access controlled expressways are:

  • acquiring additional land is expensive. (land adjacent to existing NH is expensive)

  • since existing NH can not be closed, constructing additional lanes, interchanges etc. is time consuming.
Because of this most of the access-controlled expressways that are being constructed consists mostly of greenfield components.

This is explained nicely in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cckBW7Ob...pOnDriving

Odisha needs to keep this in mind and propose and push some access-controlled expressways with mostly greenfield components. Following are some suggestions.
  • Hyderabad - Koraput - Dhenakanal (close to Bhubaneswar outer ring road) - Baripada - Kolkata

  • Bhubaneswar outer ring road

  • Sambalpur - Varanasi

  • Paradeep - Ranchi
Following maps show the current status of Access-controlled Expressway construction in India.
