The Final Location Survey for this 95-km line, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 2.4 crore last year, is currently in progress from both ends. It is likely to conclude by March. The old railway track was built in 1909 by the British during the beginning of 19th century. It was meant to ferry granite stones and forest products from Niligiri area to Kolkata via Balasore. Later, the railway line was abandoned and became almost defunct.

The Odisha government should facilitate development around this line (may be even make also a road parallel to it) and make this line as the first metro line corridor of this area with stops every 2-3 kms.
