Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has accorded university status to the Dharanidhar Autonomous College in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) and (2) of Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Odisha Act 5 of 1989), the State Government do hereby alter the territorial Jurisdiction of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Mayurbhanj by establishing a new University called the Dharanidhar University at Keonjhar, Odisha with effect from the date of notification in the Odisha Gazette,” a notification of the Higher Education Department dated 11 February 2023 said. ...

The new University will be carved out of the territorial jurisdiction of Maharaja Sriramchandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada.

Keonjhar:  ... the Keonjhar administration has developed a state-of-the-art outdoor handball synthetic court, which is the first such facility in Odisha.

The synthetic handball court has been built as per the standards of the IHF (Internationals Handball Federation).

Dual Handball Courts (Synthetic Pro-Cushion Surface) covering an area of 0.5 acre is built with a seating capacity of around 200. Material used for preparation of synthetic court has been certified under ‘Category 4-Medium-Fast’ by International Tennis Federation (ITF), ... 

... The campus has been developed for multi-disciplinary public use for activities like ‘walking pathways’, acupressure track, children’s play area, open air gym, gymnasium, yoga platform, toilet block, seating arena and drinking water.

Sanctioned with a cost Rs 3.26 crore under DMF Keonjhar ...

the State Government has initiated steps for developing the Government college of Engineering, Keonjhar to a Centre of Excellence in Research of Earth Science and Technology.

... Considering the State’s potential as a mineral hub of India, the Chief Secretary issued directions to develop the college to an institute of international eminence along the lines of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

... Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena advised to have a specialized Geology Division with five year integrated course in applied Geology, Geo-Physics and Geo-Engineering.

... It was decided that the institute would have advanced divisions in rock mechanics, rock excavation, mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, material testing, characterization, geology, environmental engineering, mining planning and design and the like.

It would have all the similar research facilities as ISM Dhanbad.

... The approximate budget requirement was estimated around Rs.42.50 crore.
